AKD is seeking an experienced and driven individual to join the team in the position of Safety Advisor – Projects. This position is based at our Colac site and works with our site & project teams to deliver a zero-harm safety culture. This position is focussed upon the safe delivery of capital improvement projects and is subject to a one-year employment contract with potential for extension.  

This position will focus on monitoring and overseeing adherence to safety systems, implementation of project related documentation and processes and auditing. Relationship management and providing sound advice in accordance with legislative requirements and AKD’s policies and procedures is crucial. The Safety Advisor will be responsible for promoting a safe work culture and influencing improvements in all health and safety aspects of activities undertaken during the project lifecycle of the projects and program of works.

Supported by previous experience in a similar Health and Safety role, we believe the position will best suit someone with a qualification in Health & Safety (minimum Cert IV). Exposure to the timber or manufacturing industries will be valuable but not necessary.

The key to success in this position will be the ability of the individual to use their technical safety knowledge and experience to influence and guide change, provide guidance and support to the project team, develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and contractors and ensure implementation of health & safety best practice.

The position requires a team orientated person with strong communication and influencing skills, self-motivated and solution driven and most importantly, someone who is ready for a ‘hands-on’ role. The individual must be willing to challenge and enhance existing processes and systems and have the credibility to deal with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Providing advice, guidance, and support to the site & project teams
  • Ensuring effective implementation of the AKD Health and Safety systems are adhered to and drive a Zero Harm culture
  • Ensuring contractor management requirements are adhered to
  • Drive and support a proactive safety culture through a collaborative approach
  • Implement health & safety best practices while providing recommendations and guidance on all safety matters
  • General health & safety tasks such as reporting, incident investigations, risk assessments, workplace site inspections, safety procedures and hazard management
  • Injury Management – ensuring communication and guidance to managers and team members
  • Maintain health & safety systems and legislative compliance
